How to Study in Canada

For students planning to study abroad and extend their stay to work and live, Canada can be a good option. To study in Canada, one needs to plan well at least a year in advance. Studying in Canada can not only help you with education, but also connect with its multicultural aspects of life, people, festivities with a blend of French in it.

While planning, here are a few steps that can help you achieve your goals to study in Canada.

1. Explore universities:

Students should begin by searching for appropriate universities, based on their subject of interest, entry eligibility and fee structure. You can search for multiple opportunities online as well as take some assistance from abroad education consultants. The consultants can be a good source for complete information and end-to-end assistance as well. Ensure you apply for a Designated Learning Institute only (these institutes can enroll international students).

2. Apply to universities:

You can apply to universities once finalised with your subject/ course to be taken. While applying make sure, you fulfil the admission requirements for eligibility in terms of academic scores and language proficiency.

  • If you have a record of extraordinary merits in your academics and extra-curricular attributes, you can also be eligible to apply for scholarships. The scholarships for international students in Canada that are funded by the government as well as by the respective university. So, you can check for the same while applying to the university for your admission.

  • For each application, you would have an application fee, so make sure you choose your university to apply by understanding all the entry eligibility. You can also apply for another university as a back-up plan.

Documentation for application:

While applying you can attach your digital copies of your required academic documents on the university portal or admission process as required. Every university may have its own rules for admission. Hence, it is very necessary you check and provide as per the guidelines only.

  • You should produce your marksheets, degree certificates if applicable, transcripts and letter of recommendation as compulsory documents.

Language Proficiency:

Education in Canada is mostly in English as well as in French. Mostly, English courses are preferred by international students. For this, students are expected to provide English proficiency test scores i.e. IELTS/ TOEFL.

  • Students can also appear for French as a secondary language, which is beneficial for work and living in Canada. French is the second national language of Canada that is widely spoken locally and at work.

3. Funds for Education:

Students need to arrange for funds that can take care of the tuition fees, living expenses - $10,000 and health insurance expenses that is to be applied through the university after you enroll.

  • You should have documentation of arranged funds for your admission and your further visa application.

  • You can also arrange for an educational loan if required; or mention if a family member wishes to sponsor your studies and the relative documentation of his financial status.

4. Acceptance at the University:

You should receive your application results maximum within 6 months. Once you receive your acceptance, you can apply for your student visa.
