Some Facts About Higher Education in Hungary

Over 500 Courses to Study

You might perceive language as a challenge when it comes to studies in a foreign land. But don’t worry. International students are free to opt course that best fits their interests. The duration of integrated programmes offered across a few study fields spans 5 to 6 years. At the end of the integrated programme, students receive bachelor’s as well as master’s degree. Doctoral programmes are covered within 4 years of study and 2 years of research in the corresponding field.

Higher Education Institutions

The first and the oldest education institution in Hungary was established in 14th Century in the year 1367! Hungary is now home to 65 higher education institutions of which 28 are funded by the state government, 26 by Church authorities and 11 of them are private institutions. How Much Does it Cost?

All the institutions offer higher education at an affordable tuition fee. The average cost of study in Hungary for international students varies between EUR 5500 and EUR 7500 per annum for the undergraduate and post-graduate courses. The cost differs from university to university and the course of study.

You might live in Budapest, Debrecen, Pecs, Szeged or any other city. Talking about the accommodation charges, it is EUR 110 to EUR 300 if you’re living in a dormitory provided by the university and EUR 174 to EUR 315 for a shared flat including all the utilities available per month. Transportation is not a problem in Hungarian cities. You can take a bicycle ride around the city for free or prefer to pay for a shared bike. You can even commute by public transportation with a monthly pass at the cost of 11 Euros.

Funding Options

Scholarships save a lot of education cost and internships pay you a fair stipend. A student can either pursue full-time or part-time work for 8 hours and 6 hours, respectively. Under Government scholarship ‘Stipendium Hungaricum programme’, bachelors, masters and Ph.D pursuing international students are exempted from paying tuition fees and are even eligible for medical insurance.

So much of scope, opportunities, funding options, low cost of living, umpteenth courses to study make Hungary a decent study destination for international students.
